The Stables

The Stables area, a three-sided building, was converted for a variety of uses. The upper level of the eastern side was used as accommodation – a bathroom and three bedrooms for the boys and (at times) a house father. The area below was given over to storage areas and a garage for the Village’s beloved VW Microbus.

The opposite (western) side of the Stables was the domain of the Village’s maintenance engineer, Ted Thomas. The connecting (southern) side was turned into a gym and a classroom. This was used to educate the children who did not yet have sufficient English to attend local schools.
