We are delighted to announce that East Sussex Library & Information Service is promoting our hunt for people in the county who remember the early days of the Pestalozzi Children’s Village (between 1959 and 1966).
Battle Library display
Battle Library has just installed a special display of materials held in the Service’s archive. The display presents a variety of press cuttings, articles and old Pestalozzi publications. If you knew the early Pestalozzi children you will definitely recognise some of the photos!
County-wide promotion
The Library & Information Service is also placing a promotional poster in every library in the county to prompt anyone who may have information about this story.
Our Project is supplying a handout to be distributed through all East Sussex libraries (planned to be available by the end of this week)
The people who remember
Our plan is to reconnect with an important part of our (and the local area’s) history – our Claverham school friends (and – we hope! – some of the surviving teachers); the local Pestalozzi supporters (service groups and community groups who fund-raised for our charity) and your family members who worked at Pestalozzi (either at Sedlescombe or at the original Pestalozzi office at 81 High Street, Battle.
We’re looking to discover personal memories, photographs and memorabilia linked to the early Pestalozzi children and their lives in East Sussex.
Through the libraries, we’re particularly aiming to make contact with people who may not be connected online but who still make regular use of their local library.
See the display at Battle Library!
Battle Library is located at: 7 Market Square (opposite the fire station), Battle, East Sussex TN33 0XB

Please share!
Please share this on social media – or just tell people who you think might remember us.
For those of you who didn’t know the Pestalozzi Children’s Village of those earliest days, please, please ask older friends and members of your families if they remember – and tell us about it! Who knows, we may even be able to tell you a little bit more about what happened to us all!
Our thanks to the East Sussex Library and Information Service staff for their support – and to Councillor Terri Dowling of Hastings Borough Council for putting us in touch with the Service.
